The Founder's Legacy: A Tribute to Gordie Peterson This suite is named in honour of the late Gordon "Gordie" Peterson (1929-2023), Jenna's grandfather and a true Alert Bay icon. For over 50 years, Gordie was a pillar of our community—as Mayor, an executive of the Legion and Lions Club, and an entrepreneur whose ventures were woven into the fabric of the village. His legacy of hospitality and service is the foundation of Peterson Ventures. This premier suite, with its commanding view of the Johnstone Strait he loved, is our tribute to him.
Your Serviced Apartment Experience Located on the top (2nd) floor, this suite features an open-concept living area, a fully stocked kitchen with everything needed for gourmet meal preparation, and a private balcony perfect for watching sunsets over the bay with the mountains of Vancouver Island in the distance. The master bedroom is a peaceful retreat, and a dedicated workspace makes the suite ideal for both relaxation and productivity.
Our Hosting Style We're Joe and Jenna, the next generation proud to continue Gordie's legacy. As part of your serviced stay, all linens, towels, and essential toiletries are included, with housekeeping available upon request. We operate with a 'Virtual Front Desk' model to ensure you have a seamless self-check-in and uninterrupted privacy. We monitor messages between 9 am and 8 pm and will respond as quickly as we can, ensuring local support is always just a message away.

When coming off the ferry onto Cormorant Island (Alert Bay):
- Turn right onto Fir Street.
- Follow Fir Street, then turn left when you reach Maple Road.
- Continue on Maple Road, veering right as the road splits towards Cedar Street.
- Important: DO NOT attempt the Walnut Road route, as it is a no-through road with no guest parking for our suites.
- Instead, continue straight up the hill to Cedar Street and turn left.
- Drive along Cedar Street until you reach 126 Cedar Street (the big white apartment building) is half way up the hill on your left. This is where you will park. Gilakas'la | Welcome!

These suites are overlooking the gorgeous bay and mountains on nearby Vancouver Island. We offer free Wi-Fi, parking, housekeeping on request, and rollaway cot beds, if needed. ‘Yalis (also known as Alert Bay on Cormorant Island) is the home of the ‘Namgis First Nation of the Kwakwaka’wakw at the north-eastern tip of Vancouver Island. It is a 40-minute small ferry ride from Port McNeill. Come stay with us and experience the rich culture and beauty that our village has to offer. Unfortunately this rental is not pet friendly. Children are welcome.
